Which services are in scope?
The EAA covers products and services considered essential to everyday life. On the digital side, the main services in scope are:
- e-commerce
- consumer banking services
- electronic communications services
- elements of passenger transport services (websites, apps, e-tickets, real-time information)
- e-books and their reading software
- access to audiovisual media services
What you need to do
- Check whether your services fall within the scope of the directive
- Audit your websites and apps against the EN 301 549 standard
- Fix non-conformities, starting with key user journeys
- Publish the required accessibility information, for example in your terms and conditions
- Document your compliance and any disproportionate burden you invoke
One directive, national transpositions
Each Member State has transposed the EAA into national law and designated its enforcement authorities. Penalties and practical arrangements therefore vary from one country to another. We audit against the standard expected in each country where you operate.
Transition periods apply to certain contracts and equipment in place before June 2025: they do not exempt new services from compliance.
This page outlines the main points of the applicable framework. It does not constitute legal advice: the texts and how they are applied may change.
